Fort Lauderdale United FC unveiled the signing of the commanding and all-present Makenna Gottschalk to its roster for the 2024 USL Super League season.
Dipping her toes in at Daytona State College, Gottschalk began her accoladed career with an impressive 65 recorded saves in just her debut year alone. Gottschalk then transferred to New Mexico State University where ingrained herself as a steadfast player.
Gottschalk reinvented New Mexico State’s defense with her goalkeeping mastery, orchestrating shutouts exquisitely and repulsing balls from the net. With a career-high of 86 saves as a senior in 2021, the fourth-most in the WAC and tied for fifth-most in NM State history, Gottschalk etched her name into collegiate records.
But she didn’t stop there, Gottschalk continued to persist in 2022, emerging as one of the top goalkeepers in the WAC. She ended her collegiate career as seventh in the nation in shutouts (11), first in save percentage (.843) and sixth in saves (91). Gottschalk was awarded the WAC Tournament MVP, and she ranks third in total saves at NM State (235).
Gottschalk continued to pave her path on the professional field with SCU Torreense in Portugal.
With Gottschalk guarding the net, Fort Lauderdale United FC will have a formidable defense this upcoming season.
